Summary ECP secretary said the election will be held on August 6 as announced.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The election commission has rejected the government’s request for changing the polling date for presidential election after which the poll will be held on the scheduled date.
Election commission secretary has also confirmed the report, saying that the election will be held on August 6 as announced.
Meanwhile, the sources say that a formal letter will be soon sent to government in this regard.
The PML-N government had asked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to change the date of polling, saying that a number of lawmakers would not be available on the set election date of August 6 due to their ‘religious engagements’ in the last 10 days of Ramazan.
Earlier, CEC Justice (r) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had made a decision while some formalities were yet to be performed before returning the summary to the government. “Our decision is pretty clear. There has to be a solid justification for making a request to change the polling date for the president’s election,” he said.
