Presidential election: PM forms task force to convince other parties

PM Nawaz chaired a meeting in Islamabad today (Friday).

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday formed a task force to take other political parties into confidence over the names suggested by the PML-N for the presidential slot.

 

The task forces comprises of Khawaja Asif‚ Chaudhry Nisar Ali‚ Shahbaz Sharif‚ Ahsan Iqbal and Saad Rafique.

 

A meeting of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was held in Islamabad with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the chair to review names of the candidates.

 

According to sources, names of Sartaj Aziz‚ Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui‚ Mamnoon Hussain‚ Ghaus Ali Shah‚ Iqbal Zafar Jhagra and Mehtab Abbassi have been shortlisted in this regard.

 

On the other hand, the government has requested the Election Commission to change the schedule of Presidential election‚ which is due on 6th of next month.

 

The Ministry of Law and Justice in a letter to the commission has taken the plea that a number of members of the parliament have proceeded to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah who will return after Eid-ul-Fitr.

 

Therefore the commission should reschedule the election to ensure maximum participation of the parliamentarians in the presidential election.
