Summary Supreme Court of Pakistan has sought date for local government elections.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the federation and all the four provinces to apprise the court as to when the local government elections would be held.

While hearing the Balochistan law and order case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that the situation might not change without holding the local bodies election.

He remarked whether the government would announce date for the election or the apex court would have to do that.

The chief justice said that there was hope that the new government would improve law and order situation in Balochistan but it has further deteriorated.

On the other hand, Advocate General Punjab Mustafa Ramday said draft legislation has been prepared for the holding of local bodies elections in Punjab.

He also sought some time from the court for consultation with the Punjab Chief Minister.
