ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Director General Audit Malik Manzoor on Wednesday told Supreme Court that former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf distributed Rs37 billion among the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and its allied parties.

 

A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, resumed hearing of the discretionary funds case.

 

During case hearing, DG Audit Malik Manzoor told bench that guidelines issued by the planning commission were ignored during issuance of discretionary funds.

 

He said that PML-Q received Rs 7.80 billion, MQM Rs 1.90 billion and ANP got 1.70 billion rupees.

 

Attorney General Munir A. Malik said that the funds and government treasury were the property of the people and not a single penny could be spent without proper approval.

 

More than 50 percent of the development schemes were non-transparent, the Attorney General stated.

 

It is pertinent to mention here that the apex court had ordered a special audit of the expenses incurred on development projects sanctioned by former prime minister Raja Pervez Ashraf using discretionary funds
