Summary Govt set to execute various energy projects for alternative sources of electricity.

 

LAHORE (Online) - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said the government is working on war footing to overcome energy crisis.


This he said while presiding over a high level meeting to review the implementation of energy projects in the province.


He said that the provincial government is set to execute various energy projects for producing electricity through alternative sources.


The chief minister said overcoming the energy crisis will help boost the economy.


The meeting reviewed various projects to generate electricity through hydel‚ bio-gas and alternative sources of energy.


WAPDA Chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah briefed the Chief Minister about the performance of the WAPDA and its ongoing energy projects.


Punjab Minister of Energy Sher Ali Khan and Minister of Agriculture‚ Dr. Farrukh Javed and provincial Chief Secretary Javed Aslam also attended the meeting.


Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Energy Sher Ali Khan has said that City District Government will focus on converting street lights and offices to solar power system after Eid-ul-Fitr.


Addressing a forum on Saturday, the minister said that province could save 2000MW of electricity under the energy saving campaign.


He said that Punjab will be able produce additional 3000MW electricity by January 2015 in the light of agreements signed with the Chinese companies to produce electricity by utilising coal and solar energy.


Sher Ali Khan said that China Power International Holding will install four power plants of 600MW each in different parts of Punjab.


The electricity will be supplied at 12 cent per unit, he added.


The minister also said that Kalabagh Dam should be constructed with consensus among all the provinces.
