LAHORE (Dunya News) - The district returning officer has sent a letter to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the deployment of army during by-elections in Lahore.
The letter forwarded by district returning officer Hamid Hussain Shah has requested the election commission to deploy army to ensure free and transparent elections. The army troops will be asked to supervise ballot papers and deliver them to returning officers.
The letter requested the ECP to immediately issue notification in this regard.
It is important to mention that by-elections for one national assembly and three provincial assembly constituencies will be held in Lahore on August 22.
The constituencies which have fallen vacant due to resignation of winners of more than one seat in Lahore are NA-129, PP-142, PP-150 and PP-161.
NA-129 was vacated by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who retained a provincial assembly seat.
