NA Standing Committee endorses DHA bill 2007National Assemblys Standing Committee on Defence has approved Defence Housing Authority bill 2007 while PML-N members opposed the bill, reported Dunya News on Thursday.< br >The meeting of the NA standing committee was held in Islamabad with Chairperson Dr. Azra Fazal Pechucho in chair. Members from Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz opined that the purpose of giving legal protection to DHA is to expand limits of Bahria Town. They demanded not to defame army by using its name for business activities. The committee invited Aitzaz Ahsan and Latif Afridi to attend next meeting for discussion on amendment bill 2007 in Army Act 1952.Former president and then Chief Executive of Islamic Republic of Pakistan General Pervez Musharraf had promulgated DHA Order No 26 on wed 19 Sep 2002 for the reconstitution of Defence Housing Authority Lahore. After promulgation of Chief Executive Order, DHA was entirely a changed organization. It gained reinforced powers and the jurisdiction to acquire land anywhere in the province of Punjab.General (retd) Musharraf had issued the DHA Islamabad Ordinance about five years back to set up an authority in Islamabad on the pattern of Karachi and Lahore by giving sweeping powers to its top uniformed management. The sole purpose of the new proposed bill was to give an independent status to the DHA and refrain civic bodies and other relevant government agencies from looking into the DHA affairs.
