ISLAMABAD (Dunya News): The National Electric power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has raised the power tariff by Rs 1.12 per unit under fuel adjustment surcharge.

According to a notification issued here on Monday by NEPRA, the authority has increased the tariff for electricity used in the month of May where power production through diesel remained Rs 20.80 while per unit cost through furnace oil remained Rs 16 per unit.

Central Power Purchasing agency (CPPA) had requested the NEPRA to increase the power tariff by Rs 1.12 per unit which has been approved by the regulatory body.

NEPRA officials told that seven billion units were sold to the power distribution company in May; therefore, consumers have to pay the extra charges for that volume of power provided to them.

They said that distribution companies will collect six billion rupees from the consumers in the bills of December this year.

Officials clarified that this increase will not be implemented on lifeline consumers consuming 50 units per month and consumers of KESC.
