LAHORE (Dunya News) – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday said that power sector’s circular debt has exceeded Rs 500 billion but the government will fulfill its promise to clear it within 60 days.
Shahbaz Sharif met Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq in Model Town area of Lahore.
On the occasion, Shahbaz criticised previous government saying that PPP led government only focused on collecting commission instead of generating the electricity.
He said PML-N government has promised to end electricity load shedding during its tenure. A 5-year energy policy is being introduced after taking all the stakeholders into confidence.
The chief minister remarked that cost of Nandipur Power Project has gone up from Rs 22 billion to Rs 57 billion.
Strict decisions will be taken to steer the country out of crisis, he added.
Shahbaz Sharif said a task force has also been formed to control the power theft.
