17-member SC larger bench to hear NRO cases today

Summary

Seventeen-member larger bench of the Supreme Court will start hearing of NRO cases from Monday. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will chair the larger bench. On the other hand, the government has decided not to defend NRO. Supreme Court has appointed 3 constitutional and legal court assistants for NRO cases. Justice (R) Shaeq Usmani, Justice (R) Mian Allah Nawaz and Muhammad Sardar Khan will assist the court in the NRO case to be heard from today. Justice (R) Shaeq Usmani is the former judge of Sindh High Court. Mian Allah Nazaw had performed his duties as Chief Justice of Lahore High Court while Muhammad Sardar Khan was the former Attorney General of Pakistan. All three experts had also appointed court assistants in the hearing of NRO cases in 2007.
