Altaf statement: SC adjourns hearing of petition for a week

Summary Supreme Court has termed the plea filed by petitioner regarding Altaf statement as ambiguous.

 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News):-Supreme Court has postponed the hearing of case for a week regarding disputed statement of MQM chief Altaf Hussain over segregation of Karachi.


Chief Justice of Pakistan has said that the government and law enforcement agencies are bound to take notice of the statement released by Altaf Hussain.


Justice Aijaz Chaudhry said that is it impossible to take notice of the politicians’ words they utter during their speeches.


Three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry conducted hearing of the case regarding disputed case.


The petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Zaferullah repeated different statements of Altaf Hussain published in different newspapers and argued that Altaf Hussain’s words are tantamount to disintegrate the country.


The Chief Justice consulted why the petitioner has not made Altaf Hussain a party in the petition if he has some grudge in this regard.


At this, Barrister Zaferullah said that chairman MQM has been made a party in the petition.

 

Chief Justice said that according to the record of Election Commission, the MQM has not been registered in the name of Altaf Hussain; rather, Farooq Sattar is chief of the party.


Giving his stance, Barrister Zaferullah said that this registration has been made just for electoral purpose; actually the party is being run Altaf Hussain.


Chief Justice made it clear that the petitioner will have to prove who is running the party.


Petitioner insisted that no political party could be allowed to carry on anti-state activities.


Justice Aijaz Chaudhry said Supreme Court can’t chase the politicians during their political activities.

 

The court has directed the petitioner to prove in the light of Election Commission record that who is leading the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.


The apex court also directed the petitioner to move an application in accordance rules and regulations.

The court was adjourned for next week.
