Summary Pervez Musharraf has been barred from contesting in the general elections.

 

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) - Former military ruler Gen (re) Pervez Musharraf was disqualified from contesting next month s general elections after the election tribunals rejected his nomination papers in three other constituencies.

 

Musharraf s nomination papers were challenged on the grounds that the former military ruler had violated the Constitution and sacked members of the superior judiciary during the 2007 emergency.

 

Today (Tuesday), the election tribunal in NA-32 constituency of Chitral rejected Musharraf s nomination papers.

 

Ex-president s appeals in NA-48 (Islamabad-I), NA-139 (Kasur-II) and NA-250 (Karachi) have alread been rejected by the election tribunals. 

 

The former dictator has been facing numerous political and legal challenges since he returned to Pakistan last month after nearly four years in self-exile.

 

Pakistan will go to the polls on May 11 to choose new national and provincial assemblies, marking the first democratic transition in the country s 66-year history.
