Owner of Haris Steel Mills Sheikh Afzal involved in Bank of Punjab fraud case has agreed to pay back the loan he was sanctioned without fulfilling legal requirements. Sheikh Afzal accused Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Babar Awan for receiving money from him to get the case dismissed, reported Dunya News on Tuesday. Sheikh Afzal along with his on Haris Afzal was presented in the Supreme Court during the hearing of case regarding sanctioning of Rs 9 billion loan by Bank of Punjab to Haris Steel Mills. He sought pardon from the court and said his accomplices and NAB had misguided him, otherwise he would have presented himself before. Chief Justice directed to immediately release Haris on the condition that not only his name would remain included in the case but he would have to be present whenever summoned. Sheikh Afzal claimed he has already distributed most of the money from Rs 9 billion to others. He revealed that former president Bank of Punjab, Himesh Khan had received Rs 500 million from him and several others received expensive gifts and house in Defence Housing Authority. The superior court directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to speed up efforts to arrest Himesh Khan. The court adjourned the hearing till December 2, 2009.
