Despite repeated assurances by federal and provincial governments to end sugar crisis, sugar is being sold at Rs 70per kg in various cities, reported Dunya News. The experiment of providing sugar to 3,200 shopkeepers directly by the government also failed in Lahore and sugar isnt available in several areas of city. In Multan, district administration has formed 270 fair price shops where sugar will be available at Rs 40/kg. In wholesale markets of Karachi, sugar is being sold at Rs 52/kg. In Peshawar sugar isnt easily available even at Rs 65/kg. In Quetta sugar prices have crossed Rs 65 to 70 while in Balochistan sugar is being sold at Rs 75/kg. Dealers said that government promised to provide 3300 ton sugar but provided only 1200 tons of sugar.
