Nepra approves hike in electricity tariff by Rs 1.33

Summary The new electricity prices will come into effect after court’s decision.

 

ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Tuesday approved increase in electricity tariff by Rs 1.33 per unit on account of monthly fuel price adjustment plan, Dunya News reported.

 

NEPRA gave permission for the increase during the hearing of applications filed by Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA).

 

During the hearing, CPPA adopted that cost of the electricity being generated through diesel remained Rs 21.56 per unit while electricity generation remained 170 million units in December.

 

Electricity production cost through furnace oil remained Rs 15.49 per unit and 23 paisas per unit loss was faced due to power theft and line losses.

 

The CPPA had requested a per unit increment of Rs 1.36, however, Nepra approved the increase of Rs 1.33 per unit for the month of December.
