Pakistan has reservations over MFN status to India

Summary Ministerial talks on the issue will be held shortly, the foreign secretary said.

 

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has  some reservations  about giving Most Favoured Nation-status to India which will be discussed at an upcoming meeting between the two sides, the country s foreign secretary said today.

 

 

Without providing details, Mr Jalil Abbas Jilani said Pakistan had “some reservations" on according the MFN-status to India.

 

These reservations would be discussed at the meeting between officials of the commerce ministries of the two sides, he said during an informal interaction with journalists here. Mr Jilani did not specify the dates of the meeting.

 

He acknowledged that it was very important to improve relations and trade between the two countries. The Pakistani Cabinet has already decided to accord the MFN-status to India.

 

Referring to the unrest along the LoC, Mr Jilani said Pakistan had proposed an independent inquiry into the recent violations of the ceasefire and was awaiting India s response.
