ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court was irked over the transfer of Asghar Khan, an officer who had been investigating the deal with a Turkish firm over Karkay, a ship-mounted power plant which was allowed to leave the country after paying Rs 1.62 billion.
The bench questioned as to why the investigation officer was transferred under the pretext of the court’s displeasure and summoned the DG NAB rawalpindi.
A three-member bench of apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed the hearing in the rental power case on Thursday.
In his remarks, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said Director General National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi and NAB’s principal secretary should be suspended.
The chief justice moreover inquired as to who had the NAB arrested when it had been in possession of the apex court’s ruling on the matter for a long time.
He added that Brigadier Farooq Awan had destroyed career prospects for Khan.
Responding to which, the brigadier said he was stepping down from his position.
