The World Health Organisation (WHO) and health authorities in Sindh admitted that cities including Khairpur, Larkana, Qambar, Kashmor, Jacobabad, Ghotki and Sukkur were badly affected by the contagious disease where a large number of children had been admitted to hospitals.
The provincial Health Department said that anti-measles vaccine was being administered in the affected areas. However, it admitted that in many areas patients were unable to reach hospitals for treatment due to logistic problems.
The death toll is likely to increase in coming days as people in far fling areas complained that no medical team had reached their area where children needed vaccination against the disease.
