Democracy owing to lawyers' movement: CJP

Summary CJP says change in the country is the result of lawyers’ sincere and unparalleled movement.


ISALAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry said that incumbent democratic system was the result of lawyers’ struggle that brought about a change in the country.


Speaking at a ceremony on Saturday, the country’s top judge said that the assemblies were functioning in the country due to the change. The CJ said that the significance of lawyers’ movement was also acknowledged by the society, media and the assembly.


The chief justice said that the movement, which led to ouster of a dictator, was also lauded by the world.


He said that law demands from all the institutions to live within their jurisdiction while having a respect for one another.
