YDA protest: Indoor services suspended in govt hospitals

Summary The young doctors have suspended indoor services at all government hospitals in Lahore.


LAHORE: They have taken this step as a protest against the arrest of Young Doctor Association activists in Gujranwala.


Addressing a news conference at Services Hospital Lahore, YDA representatives Dr Nasir Abbas and Dr Hamid Butt said that Secretary Health Arif Nadeem was responsible for the incident of young doctors’ clash with senior doctors in Gujranwala.


They said that the indoor services in all hospitals across Punjab will remain suspended until Secretary Health is suspended. They also have called for registration of murder attempt case against him.


It is worth mentioning here that young doctors of District Headquarters Hospital Gujranwala on Wednesday ransacked the hospital building and tortured top official.


The young doctors stormed into the office of the MS, Dr. Anwar Amanullah, beat him and forced him out.


During the brawl, furniture and windows in the MS office were also broken. When resisted, they also roughed up other senior doctors on the occasion.


The young doctors also tortured the media person who were covering the incident.


Police have registered case against 54 doctors for torturing MS Dr Anwar Amanullah and journalists and arrested nine of them including YDA president Kashif Bilal.


Following the whole brawl, the Young Doctors Association’s Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan and other cities chapters boycotted out-door departments which caused difficulties to poor patients.


YDA announced to close all outdoor and indoor service, including Outpatient Departments (OPDs) in the entire province in protest against the arrest of YDA leaders in Gujranwala.


On the other hand, patients and their relatives are suffering due to doctors’ strike and closure of the said services amid severe cold in the province.
