Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday announced payment of an outstanding amount of Rs 110 billion for NWFP under net hydel profit to be paid in installments in next five years. He was addressing a press conference in Peshawar at the Governor House following a briefing on law and order situation and meeting with the provincial leadership. The Prime Minister said the government was determined to eradicate terrorism and would not be cowed down by acts of violence. He said the nation today stands united and was fully with the countrys armed forces, para military forces, police and all other security agencies who had rendered numerous sacrifices to rid the country of extremists and terrorists. To a question about the statement by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said peace cannot return to the region till the resolution of the core issue of Kashmir. He said the statement by the Indian PM was a follow-up to what was decided at the Sharm el Sheikh meeting. He said the talks at Foreign Secretary and Foreign Minister level had already been held in this regard.
