Summary Emergency services remained suspended in all public hospitals for the seventh day in Quetta.

Provincial Health secretary Asmatullah Kakar said that young doctors have been called in to work in emergency wards of public hospitals.

Talking to Dunya News, the secretary said that a bunch of doctors have taken hostage of hospitals. He said the doctors have been directed several times by the authorities to resume their duties and in return, they suspended emergency services too.

He confirmed that 73 protesting doctors have been suspended while show-cause notice has been served to 100 doctors.

The verification of protesting doctors’ degree is also in process, the health secretary added.

It is important to mention that the emergency services and operation theatres remained suspended in all public hospitals for the seventh consecutive day, while the outdoor patient departments (OPDs) remained shut for the 41th consecutive day.

Meanwhile, the suffering patients all across Balochistan have strongly resented the obstinacy of the doctors persisting to continue strike in spite of grave situation in the backdrop of serious terror threats and the government’s failure in retrieving kidnapped Dr. Saeed Ahmad Khan, which triggered the strike.

The strike is being observed on the call of the Pakistan Medical Association (Balochistan) which was called on after the abduction of Dr Saeed Ahmed Khan, an eye specialist and head of LRBT Hospital, on October 16 from Sariab Road in the provincial capital.
