Twin blasts in IIU Islamabad kill 6, injure 22

Terrorists targeted the Federal Capital Islamabad once again as two suicide blasts in International Islamic University killed six persons including three female students and injured 22 including 16 females. The Inspector General of Islamabad Police said both the blasts were suicide and three suspects had been arrested from the university premises, Dunya News reported Tuesday.Two blasts occurred with few minutes difference in International Islamic University (IIU) Islamabad located in sector H 11 around 3pm. According to Dunya News correspondent one blast occurred in Shariah Block and the other in the women cafeteria while a large number of female students were present in the cafeteria. The injured were shifted to PIMS hospital where four female students are in critical condition. The widow panes of the building shattered due to the blasts intensity. The law enforcing agencies and police surrounded the area after the blasts and started search operation with dog squad while three suspects have also been arrested from the affected cafeteria.Some 5,000 to 6,000 students are enrolled in the university including 1500 foreign students. The university campus houses 5 male and 3 female students hostels whereas Police Lines and Police Foundation are also situated near the 700 acre campus. President of the IIU Anwar Hussain said the university would remain closed for four days. The I.G Islamabad Syed Kaleem Imam told that both the blasts were suicide. The interior minister has sought report on the incident from I.G Islamabad.President, Prime Minister, Interior Minister, Federal Minster for Information, PML-N Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, PML-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, PTI Chief Imran Khan and other political leaders strongly condemned the incident.
