Summary
Lahore High Court (LHC) has reserved the decision on the Punjab Governments petition which sought the postponement of the by-polls, Dunya News Tuesday reported. Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that the only way to true democracy was through continuation of the elections. During the case hearing Khawaja Harris from the Punjab Government gave arguments. He maintained that in the wake of law and order situation and intelligence agencies reports, the government had appealed to postpone the elections. Manzoor Gilani from Tehreek-e-Istaqlal argued that election was a right of people which could not be snatched in any circumstances. If elections can be conducted in war-stricken Afghanistan then why they cannot be held in Lahore and Rawalpindi, he questioned. On the other hand, Sheikh Rashid told media that Punjab Government wanted to show the elections couldnt be conducted without its consent. Rashid vowed to move the Supreme Court if the LHC ruled in favor of the government. Separately, PML-N Javed Hashmi revealed that they had suggested the party not to postpone elections. We want to go among people. This will benefit both, the party and democracy, Hashmi opined.
