Public Accounts Committee has declared the discretionary rights of NWFP Governor to give tenders without auction as illegal and summoned former governors, Dunya News Tuesday reported. A special team has also been formed to investigate into the matter. It was revealed in the committees meeting that former governors of NWFP Lt General (r) Muhammad Shafiq and Lt General (r) Iftikhar Hussain Shah gave tenders worth millions of rupees with their own consent. Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan directed the committee to present report within one month explaining under which law the tenders were given to the favorites. The public-kitty suffered a loss of Rs 350 million in one year due to this misconduct. The committee also reviewed financial discrepancies of worth Rs 60.35 million in Ministry of Defense Production.
