The Lahore High Court has summoned the Chief Election Commissioner on October 2, accepting the Punjab Governments petition to postpone by-polls for hearing, Dunya News Tuesday reported. The court remarked that Punjab Government had no authority to postpone or stop elections, adding that it was the Election Commissions responsibility to hold elections on time. Justice Saqib Nisar of the LHC summoned the Chief Election Commissioner to brief the court on the issue. On the other hand, Awami Muslim League Chairman Sheikh Rasheed maintained that the Punjab government wanted to keep him away from the elections. Talking to media, Rasheed maintained that if the elections could be held in Iraq why couldnt they happen in Pakistan. Pakistan Muslim League-Q Lawyer Fawad Chaudhary opined that they had won the first round. Separately, Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Ali Ahmad Kurd said that such powerful judiciary wouldnt come into the country again. Kurd believed that it wasnt difficult to find Pharos in the country. He ruled out any role in appointment of the new judges.
