Summary Industries and businesses suffered loss of millions of rupees during Friday protests: ICCI

The private sector is the backbone of economy, however, government has not taken any measures to protect its interests said Yassar Sakhi Butt, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) while condemning the serious damage caused by the rioting mobs to private sector properties throughout the country on September 21, during protests against the sacrilegious film.Presiding over a meeting of businessmen at Chamber House, he said that the protesters should have expressed their anger in a peaceful and disciplined manner. However by ransacking the businesses and properties, they have sent a very negative message to the international community as their approach was totally against the principles of Islam. He deplored the fact that there were no law enforcement personnel to control the situation due to which Toyoto Motors has suffered immense loss.He called upon the government to take urgent measures to compensate the Toyota Capital Motors and thus create a sense of confidence in the private sector. It was evident that the whole country was left in the hands of wage bonds. The writ of the government was only seen in the red zone area which saved the country from the bigger international implications. He stressed that measures must be taken on war footing to provide a sense of security to private sector as in the current circumstances, entrepreneurs were in desperate need of protection to promote the economy. The businessmen demanded that government should take measures to restrict the movement of residents of Kechi Abadies from entering the industrial areas, especially during any law & order situation. They also called for relocating residents of such localities to other places so that industrial and commercial areas may not face any thread from miscreants.
