Summary President Asif Ali Zardari and PM Ashraf chaired high-level meeting of coalition parties on Monday.
Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf will appear before the Supreme Court today (Tuesday). This was decided in a high-level meeting held at the Presidency on Monday.A meeting of the heads of allied parties was held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr on Monday night with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf in the chair.The meeting decided that Prime Minister Raja Parvez Ashraf will appear before the Supreme Court today (Tuesday).The meeting was attended among others by Deputy Prime Minister, Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and Basharat Raja of PML(Q), Asfandyar Wali Khan and Senator Afrasiab Khattak of ANP, Dr. Farooq Sattar and Senator Babar Khan Ghouri of MQM, Senator Mir Israrullah Khan Zehri of BNP, Hameedullah Jan Afridi, Munir Khan Orakzai and Senator Abbas Khan Afridi of FATA.Former Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Law Minister, Senator Farook H. Naek, Minister for Water and Power, Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Ms. Mehreen Anwar Raja and spokesperson to the President, Senator Farhatullah Babar were also present during the meeting.Briefing about the meeting, spokesperson to the President Senator Farhatullah Babar said that current situation with focus on energy issues, floods situation, law and order situation and coalition matters were discussed during the meeting.The Prime Minister briefed the meeting on the current power situation in the country and the progress on various measures being taken to overcome the power shortage in the country. The meeting was informed that the various immediate steps undertaken by the government have resulted in steadily improving the power situation and expressed the hope that with the rising water levels in reservoirs as a result of recent rains, the power generation will further improve. The President directed for vigorous steps to address the power issue.The meeting was also updated on the latest floods situation in various parts of the country and the steps taken for the relief and rehabilitation of floods and rain affectees. The meeting expressed sympathies with the victims of floods and torrential rains in the country.The spokesperson said that the meeting condemned the anti- Islam film and called it an act of grave provocation.The spokesperson said that the Prime Minister also briefed the meeting of coalition parties about his recent visit to China and bilateral meetings with Chinese leadership and world leaders on the sidelines of World Economic Forum.Participants of the meeting prayed for the victims of fire incidents in Lahore and Karachi and expressed sympathies with the bereaved families.The spokesperson said that Law Minister, Mr. Farook H Naek briefed the meeting on the status of various court cases.Senator Farhatullah Babar informed that Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will appear before the Supreme Court today (Tuesday) and the coalition partners, he said, decided to accompany the Prime Minister to the Supreme Court as a mark of solidarity.The spokesperson said that coalition partners reiterated their full support to the government.The President also hosted dinner for the heads of allied parties.
