The federal cabinet Wednesday approved the anti-terrorism amendment bill that gives greater powers to the investigating departments.According to the bill individuals providing financial assistance to terrorists can be sentenced for criminal activity. The bank accounts of individuals who are in contact with terrorists can also be seized.The bill further states that action will taken, not only against the banned outfits, but also against those people who are in contact with them.Email and SMS shall be treated as evidence in the terrorism cases, according to the amended bill.The cabinet also gave approval in principal to an increase in the number of minority seats in the national and provincial assemblies.The number of minority seats will increase by four in the National Assembly.Meanwhile a bill which makes electricity theft punishable by law was also approved.According to this bill electricity thieves can be sentenced to six months in prison and fined up to Rs1 million.
