Summary LHC has suspended the membership of PML-N' MPA Rana Asif for holding Canadian citizenship.

Lahore High Court chief justice Umer Ata Bandial heard the case pertaining to the issue of parliamentarians holding dual nationality.During the course of proceeding, the petitioner stated that PML-N’s member of Punjab assembly and former Punjab finance minister is holding Canadian nationality along with Pakistani citizenship. He said that no individual was eligible to become member of assembly if he holds nationality other than Pakistan under the law.The lawyer of Rana Asif said that his client had Canadian passport only, adding that he doesn’t enjoy Canadian citizenship on which the petitioner stated that Canadian passport is issued to its citizens only under the law.The deputy attorney general Naveed Inayat presented the copies of Supreme Court’s verdict over the suspension of MPs’ membership for holding dual nationality.Suspending the membership till October 12, the court barred Rana Asif from attending the assembly sessions.
