SC financial matters: PAC seeks advice from law ministry

Summary PAC seeks law ministrys advice after Registrar SC refused details of judges financial assets.

It may be recalled that Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee had in a letter asked the Registrar Supreme Court to provide certain details about the financial matters of some judges after the reports in media that some judges had been allotted more than one expensive plots in Islamabad.In response, the Registrar Supreme Court had replied that Parliament was not authorized to scrutinize the financial matters of the Supreme Court.A PAC meeting was held at the Parliament House Wednesday under the chairmanship of Nadeem Afzal Chan to discuss the issue.Auditor General Buland Akhtar Rana was of the view that Registrar SC was bound to appear before the PAC.Chairman Nadeem Afzal said it was a serious matter and PAC would take step after acquiring legal and constitutional advice for the law ministry.The PAC also summoned report about misappropriations in the Pakistan Post during the tenure of former DG Major General (retd) Agha Masood.
