The Pakistan Ex-servicemen Association (PESA) expressed grave concern over adoption of the Contempt of Court Bill by the National Assembly saying an attack has been launched on the judiciary to protect a few corrupt persons who have benefited from NRO.Amendments regarding dual nationality holders will place national security at great risk while reopening of Nato supply route indicate total mismanagement of the whole affair by government of Pakistan, it said.This was observed in a meeting of the Executive Council of Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Association (PESA) presided by Vice Admiral Ahmad Tasnim. Air Marshal Masood Akhtar, former ambassador Salim Nawaz Gandapur, Brig Riaz Ahmed, Brig Masud ul Hassan, Justice Jawaid Nawaz Gandapur, Major Farouk Hameed, Naik Raja Fazil and others were also present on the occasion.The meeting observed that amendments to the law on contempt of court are a conspiracy to destroy independence of judiciary; it goes against the fundamental principle of equality before law. Article 248 does not provide immunity for wilful defiance of courts orders and judgments.PESA members called upon the legal fraternity, civil society and general public to resist aggression against judiciary; oppose the black law and protect the scared Constitution unanimously passed in 1973.
