Malik Riaz contempt case: Plea to postpone hearing rejected

A three-member bench headed by Justice Shakirullah Jan heard the contempt case against business tycoon Malik Riaz.Advocate Abdul Basit, counsel of Malik Riaz, could not appear in Supreme Court because of bad health.The advocate on record requested the court to ajodurn the hearing, adding that it will not be fair to hold proceeding without him.Rejecting the plea, Justice Shakirullah Jan said that Abdul Basit had nothing to say in todays hearing and asked the applicant to start his arguments, adding that no order will be passed until the respondent being given due time.Applicant advocate Ashraf Gujjar said that Malik Riaz was using delaying tactics. He maintained that Malik Raiz ridiculed chief justice and Supreme Court, adding that he should have contacted NAB and FIA if being blackmailed.The applicant maintained that Malik Riaz should be awarded sentence for scandalizing judiciary.
