A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, resumed the hearing on petitions filed against NA Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirzas ruling for not forwarding PM Gilanisdisqualification reference to the Election Commision .The apex court - on June 6 - issued notices to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza and the Election Commission of Pakistan in the identical petitions.Today, Attorney General interrupted the case proceedings and continued to redicule the judges and used harsh words against them.The furious remarks provoked some lawyers who chanted slogans against the Attorney General and tried to approach him but security was called in to control the situation.During case proceeding, the AG asked chief justice to detach himself from the case, adding that he was being prejudice in the case.Responding to the objections, the chief justice remarked that he (AG) does not enjoy the authority to object against the bench, adding that court will decide the case on meritThe AG reiterated that the judges fled soon after announcing verdict against Prime Minister Gilani.Hamid Khan, counsel of PTI chairman Imran Khan, said that the NA Speakers ruling was unlawful, adding that PM Gilani stands ineligible after the conviction.He said PM neither filed appeal against the verdict nor requested for suspension of the sentence.AK Dogar maintained that Supreme Court found PM Gilani guilty of contempt of court, adding that the status of PM was cleared after the court orders.Supreme Court has directed all the respondents to submit their arguments in written form.The petitioners are of the view that the NA Speakersruling was unwarranted after the courts sentence to the PM, hence, the ruling should be annulled.
