Summary At least 33 workers reportedly died due to insufficient arrangements in marble grinding factories.
Punjab Chief Minister took notice ofthe workers’ death due to poor conditions at factoriesand ordered an inspection team consisting health and labour secretaries to probe into the matter.Jaffar Leghari, DG Khan MNA had written a letter to the chief minister in this regard.He wrote that so far 33 workers of Nangri tribe in Choti Bala area of Dera Ghazi Khan had died due to lung diseases under poor working conditions at the factories while more than seventy labours were in critical condition due to lack of proper arrangements in the marble factories.The marble grinding factories are operating near Lahore, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.An report compiled by Environment Protection Department Punjab revealed thatratio of pollution and dirt has exceeded 3700ppm, whereas, standard ratio is 400ppm.
