Excessive electricity load shedding triggered massive protests across the country.

A large number of people took to the streets and damaged property to vent their anger against 20 hours of power outages.The protestors blocked the road by burning tyres and placing bricks that disrupted traffic in the cities including Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Okara, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Hafizabad and other areas.Over in Faisalabad, protest turned violent when angry mob stormed FESCO office and vandalized the office building. The printing machine operators took to the streets and gathered at chowk Ghanta Ghar.A strike is being observed in Chicha Watni over the call of traders. Residents of Jaffarabad and Nasirabad staged a sit-in protest outside Deputy Commissioner’s office.In Kotli district of Azad Kashmir, markets and other all institutions remained shut.Residents have also complained that prolonged electricity load sheding has badly affected the water supply to the areas.Meanwhile, the authorities have said that electricity shortfall has reached 6,300 megawatts forcing power shutdown in many cities.
