Teachers' protest: Shutter down strike in Quetta

Summary A shutter-down strike is being observed in the capital city of Balochistan province.

The All Government Teachers Association (AGTA) launched the hunger strike few days ago to exert pressure on the government to accept their demands: restructuring of teachers’ time scale, increment in conveyance allowance andreplacement of junior teachers from grades 18 and 19.In the favour of teachers’ demand various political parties including PML-N, PTI, Pashtun Khwa Mili Awami Party, BNP, National Party, Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam Nazariati and JWP supported the strike call across the city.Trade centers at Jinnah Road, Shahra-e-Iqbal, Liaquat Bazar, Price Road, Abdul Sattar Road, Kasi Road, Masjid Road and other areas remained closed.Heavy contingent of police and FC personnel were deployed in the streets to avert any untoward incident. The teachers said they would not end their strike until a notification accepting their demands was issued.
