Summary Pervez Musharraf said that no increase had been made to the defence budget for the last three years.
Former president Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has claimed that the federal government was allocating only 17 percent of total expenditures on defence services.He was addressing a meeting of ex-servicemen in Lahore through video-link from London.He dispelled the impression that defence services were getting the prime chunk of the national budget and claimed that it was being reduced despite the military was performing a massive job of countering terrorism. He claimed that the last national budget’s size was Rs 3,770 billion while the defence allocation was only Rs 570 billion.He maintained that no increase had been made to the defence budget for the last three years. Musharraf, claiming the government was using 32 percent of the budget for its expenditures, said the defence department got only 17 percent to maintain its apparatus.
