Interior Minister Rehman Malik had a meeting with his Tajik counterpart Abdurakhim Kakharov in Dushanbe on Wednesday and discussed the matters relating to bilateral ties as well as cooperation in various fields including security to tackle the challenges of terrorism and militancy in the region. During the meeting both sides emphasized the importance of peace and security in the region for socio economic development and enhanced trade and economic cooperation. The two sides were unanimous in the view that to achieve peace and development in the region tackling the menace of terrorism and militancy and the issues such as drugs and narcotics trafficking was critical. Rehman Malik said the two countries can cooperate and collaborate in the fight against terrorism and militancy by sharing real time information. He also offered to enhance the capacity of Tajik security personnel through training at various facilities in Pakistan under the Ministry of Interior. He also invited the Tajik Interior Minister to visit Pakistan. The Interior Minister said a high level security delegation will soon visit Tajikistan for discussion on the issue of cooperation in security matters. Pakistans Ambassador to Tajikistan and Tajik Ambassador in Islamabad were also present in the meeting.
