Punjab Drug Control issues high alert over fake G-Tax antibiotic injection

Summary Punjab health authorities issued a high alert after detecting counterfeit G-Tax antibiotic injections posing serious risks to public health.

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Directorate of Drugs Control Punjab has issued a Class One high alert across Punjab regarding counterfeit antibiotic injection G-Tax 250mg.

According to officials, the injection was declared fake on the basis of a Drug Testing Laboratory report, while the notice was issued after approval from the Provincial Quality Control Board.

Authorities stated that the specific batch number 25C025 of G-Tax 250mg had been identified as counterfeit.

The fake injection was reportedly recovered from a medical store in Jhelum.

The report further revealed that market authorisation holders and distributors had been directed to immediately recall existing stock from the market.

They were also instructed to provide complete supply chain details and upload recall forms to the relevant authorities.

All hospitals, pharmacies, medical stores and wholesalers were ordered to immediately stop the sale of the affected batch.

In addition, the drug control authority directed relevant institutions to submit stock details of the affected batch to drug inspectors.

The health department also warned the public not to use injections carrying batch number 25C025, saying the counterfeit medicine could pose serious health risks.

Citizens were urged to report the presence of the affected batch to the provincial drugs monitoring cell.
