ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has denied the rumours claiming that mobile phones will be blocked if users use more than five SIMs.

A viral social media post claimed that the PTA issued a notification warning that mobile phones would be blocked if users use more than five SIMs. Also, a notification was also doing the rounds which has been confirmed to be fake.

The PTA has strongly refuted claims that a mobile phone’s IMEI would be blocked if a user uses more than five SIMs in a single device within a month.

The rumor was spread through an alleged press release circulating on social media, which falsely claimed that the PTA had enforced such a regulation. The fake document even carried the PTA logo and warned users that using more than five SIMs would result in the suspension of their network services.

“Dear Customer, as per the regulations of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), a maximum of five different SIMs can be used in a mobile phone in one month. If more than five SIMs are used, the mobile’s IMEI may be blocked, and network services may be terminated.”

However, the facts contradict this claim. PTA’s Director of Communications, Zeb-un-Nisa, clarified that no such advisory has been issued, and the message circulating on social media is entirely misleading.

She explained that the PTA only monitors IMEI duplication and cloning and takes actions such as blocking suspicious devices, conducting raids with the FIA, and running public awareness campaigns.
