Karachi rains: Fake news, videos circulate on social media

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Many fake news stories and videos were circulating on the social media networking sites regarding rains in Karachi to add more fear and confusion in the citizens.

According to Dunya News, on one hand the devastation of rains in Karachi and on the other hand the storm of fake news has confused citizens.

A video titled Karachi went viral on social media in which a man jumped in the flood water from a multi story house but the voice of the video was tampered to make it look like as it was recorded in Karachi. But video with the original voice tells that the video was recorded in India.

There was a lot of talk on social media about crocodiles in Karachi, videos were shared as the crocodiles entered into a school in New Karachi with the flood water.

When the news spread, the Sindh Wildlife Department sent two officers to investigate. When they reached the spot and investigated, they found out that the rumor was spread by a man, to scare the children by showing a fake video. The original video is from Vadodra, a city in the Indian state of Gujarat, where the lake was flooded last year due to rising water levels.

In Yousuf Goth, rumor was also spread that fish entered houses with the flood relay. Upon investigation, it was found that the video was not of Karachi but was from some part of Bangladesh.
