Sana Makki is not a cure for COVID-19
LAHORE (Web Desk) - For the past few days, the usefulness of the herb Sana Makki has been mentioned on social media for the treatment of novel coronavirus, but medical experts have termed the news shared on social media as baseless and misleading.
According to medical experts, Sana Makki is a common herb that can be used for stomach and intestinal diseases but it has not been proven yet that its use is useful in deadly lung infections or the global coronavirus pandemic.
Dr. Fahim Younis, who serves as the Chief of Infectious Diseases at the American University of Maryland, explained in his Twitter posts that there is no clear evidence that Sana Makki is useful in preventing or treating the coronavirus.
He then tweeted an article published three years ago in the Guardian about the harmful effects of herbs.
Citing the article, he said that traditional herbs in China and Asia contain 61% arsenic, lead, cadmium and the use of these herbs can damage the kidneys and liver.
