Major political leaders to row in same direction for coalition government 

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - As the results of the election 2024 has been declared, the political parties are making efforts to form a coalition government.

In this regard, an important meeting has been held at the residence of Pakistan Muslim League-Q chief Chaudhary Shujaat Hussain in which matter pertaining to the formation of the government was discussed.

The political parties including PML-N, PPP, MQM-P, PML-Q, BNP and IPP announced to form the government together.

Nawaz nominates Shehbaz as PM candidate, Maryam as Punjab CM contender

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) made a significant decision on Tuesday, nominating Shehbaz Sharif as their candidate for the prime ministerial position.

According to sources, Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Organiser of the PML-N, is set to contest for the role of Punjab chief minister.

The final announcement regarding the prime ministerial candidate will be coordinated with allied parties. It's noteworthy that Nawaz Sharif has endorsed both Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz for their respective roles.

In a gesture of appreciation, Shehbaz Sharif conveyed gratitude to former president Asif Ali Zardari and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for pledging their support to the PML-N.

MWM to accept PTI founder's decision: Allama Nasir Abbas

LAHORE (Dunya News) - Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) Chairman Allama Raja Nasir Abbas welcomed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) decision to form an alliance with MWM in the National Assembly.

Allama Nasir Abbas clarified, “MWM is PTI founder's own party. He can decide whatever he wanted regarding this party. We will accept it unconditionally and unanimously.”

The MWM chief said that his party had this position since the first day and they also proved by actions that they stand by faithful friends in difficult times.

PPP enjoys Sharifs' support for presidential office

LAHORE (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz on Tuesday decided to support the Pakistan Peoples Party candidate for the constitutional position of the president.

PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif directed the party leaders to support PPP's candidate for the slot of the president after consulting former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior party leaders.

According to sources, the PML-N will formally announce its support for the PPP candidate for president in a day or two.

SHC disposes of 40 petitions against election results

KARARCHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh High Court (SHC) has disposed of all petitions against the election results of 40 constituencies of national and provincial assemblies from Karachi.

The court ordered the petitioners to contact the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) while the court also ordered the commission to decide the cases by Feb 22.

The court also issued notices to the ECP and the federation seeking replies as what action had been taken by the ECP when discrepancies took place between forms 45 and 47.

PPP to vote PML-N candidate for PM, says Bilawal

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday decided to vote the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for the prime minister in the National Assembly.

Addressing a press conference after the Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that his party did not have a mandate to form a government in the Centre.

“Due to this, I will not be putting myself forward for the candidacy of the prime minister of Pakistan,” he said, adding that PML-N and the independents have greater numbers in the Centre.

Chaotic election can't bring about political stability, says Qureshi

RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) – The mandate of the people of Pakistan has been stolen and political stability is unlikely amid chaotic election.

The sentiment has been expressed by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi who spoke to media at Adiala Jail on Tuesday.

He said the international media had declared the election rigged one.

The PTI leader added that elections were not up to the mark as even winning candidates were crying foul.

PTI to form government with MWM in Centre and Punjab: spokesperson

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday announced that it would form the government together with the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) in the Centre and Punjab.

Speaking at a news conference, PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan said the party founder had approved an alliance with the MWM. He said talks would be held with all parties, except the PPP, the PML-N and the MQM. However, he said, the party would form an alliance with the Jamaat-e-Islami in KP.

PTI nominates Ali Amin Gandapur for KP chief minister slot

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday nominated Ali Amin Gandapur as its candidate for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister slot.

The nomination of Gandapur for the KP CM has been made by the PTI founder.

The former PTI chairman, in informal talk to mediamen at Adiala Jail, said there would be no dialogue with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on formation of government in the Centre.

Gandapur had been declared returned candidate from NA-44 (Dera Ismail Khan) by securing 93,443 votes on Feb 8. He defeated Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Fully armed mon-state actors in one province [Khyber Pakhtunkhwa] did not allow the voters to come to the polling stations, he said.

Neither government nor democracy can function without PTI chairman: Latif Khosa

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sardar Latif Khosa said that neither government nor democracy can function without the PTI chairman.

Speaking to media outside the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday, Khosa said that you cannot minus the largest political party of the country this way.

“Our polling agents were forcefully ousted from the polling stations during the counting process,” he said.

He added that PTI wasn’t given even the playing field but people took a revenge through ballot on the polling day.

According to Khosa, it is illegal and unconstitutional to call their winning candidates as ‘independent’.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi on Monday said that those who had justified complaints regarding the polls would be redressed in accordance with the law.

The complaints related to the polls were being heard at the relevant forum, the minister said while speaking in a private news channel talk show.

US wants rigging allegations should be fully investigated

WASHINGTON (Web Desk) - The United States was ready to work with any government that would assume power in Pakistan, a State Department official said on Monday.

The State Department official said this amid rumours of horse-trading in the absence of a clear majority after general elections in the country and also the delay in declaring results on all National Assembly seats.

UN chief urges Pakistanis to resolve all post-election issues through set legal mechanisms

UNITED NATIONS (Dunya News) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday called on Pakistani authorities and political leaders to resolve the issues related to last week’s election through established legal procedures and to avoid any action that raise tensions.

The UN chief also urged them to maintain a “calm atmosphere” in the country.

“The Secretary-General is monitoring the situation in Pakistan and calls for the resolving all issues and disputes through the established legal frameworks, and for human rights and the rule of law, to be fully respected in the interest of the people of Pakistan,” his spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said in response to a question at the regular noon briefing in New York.

“The Secretary-General urges the authorities and political leaders to maintain a calm atmosphere, and to reject and refrain from all forms of violence and avoid any actions that could increase or inflame tensions.”

Pir Pagara alleges rigging, forfeits two Sindh Assembly seats won by GDA

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) chief Pir Sibghatullah Shah, popularly known as Pir Pagara, announced on Monday the forfeiture of the two Sindh Assembly seats won by the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) – a coalition of political parties in Sindh – in the 2024 general elections, alleging electoral rigging.

Describing the elections as "unfair", Pagara, during a press conference, called for a peaceful protest against the rigging and announced plans for a sit-in on Feb 16 near the Hyderabad Bypass Road.

Sirajul Haq resigns as JI emir over election fiasco

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) emir Sirajul Haq resigned over poor performance in the general elections held on Feb 8.

The Jamaat failed to even win a single seat in the National Assembly in the national elections which were dominated by the independent candidates backed by the PTI. They managed to win 101 seats while the PML-N grabbed 75 seats and PPP won elections on 54 seats.
