Israeli army keeps attack al-Mawasi despite ‘safe’ designation: UN

The UN human rights office has reiterated that there is “no safe in Gaza” amid Israel’s offensive, highlighting the Israeli military’s air raids and shelling on al-Mawasi, a so-called “humanitarian zone”, Al Jazeera reports.

Meanwhile, the area has limited or no infrastructure “to support the masses of civilians who have been already displaced there and where there is little access to shelter” or basic life-saving aid, it added.

UN human rights office condemns displacement due to Israeli evacuation orders

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has denounced the repeated displacement pursuant to an evacuation order by the Israeli military to civilians in northeast Khan Younis, Al Jazeera reports.

The UN agency said Monday’s evacuation order gave “no time” for civilians to know from which areas they were required to leave or where they should go.

In a statement, the OHCHR said: “Despite the evacuation order, Israeli military operations continued in and around the area unabated. The evacuation order also covered parts of Salah al-Deen Road, which has been one of two main routes vital for the transport and distribution of aid, raising concerns that delivery and provision of desperately needed humanitarian assistance will be further reduced or prevented.”

Rights group says some Damon prison detainees need hospital treatment

A prisoner watchdog says many female detainees held in Israel’s Damon prison need to be transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.

The Prisoners Affairs Authority said at least one of the 78 female prisoners held there suffers from cancer, one deals with difficult health conditions and two others are held in solitary confinement cells.

A lawyer who spoke to one of the women told the Palestinian Information Center that they are kept in overcrowded spaces with no ventilation and little food.

The rights group said a third of the prisoners are held in administrative detention – a controversial practice that allows Israeli authorities to hold people without having committed an offence on the ground that they plan to break the law in the future.

The detainees are held without legal proceedings based on undisclosed evidence.

Heavy demolition vehicles of the Israeli forces are poised to demolish homes in the town of Wadi al-Jawaya, south of Hebron in the occupied West Bank.

At least 17 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since dawn, Al Jazeera quoted medical sources as saying.

The report said that the Israeli army targeted agricultural land near Hamad, west of Khan Younis.

KHAN YUNIS (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Hundreds of panicked Gazans fled after the Israeli military on Monday ordered the evacuation of part of a humanitarian zone, warning it was preparing to launch an operation in the area.
