FIFA holds all the cards: Israel Football Association teetering on the brink of suspension

FairSquare, a UK-based nonprofit organisation, submitted a report to FIFA, football’s governing body, regarding violations of statutes by the Israel Football Association in support of calls to sanction it.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said in May the organisation would take “independent legal expertise” to assess the demands and convene a council meeting by July 20.

The organisation says its report indicates there are “multiple grounds” that should give FIFA cause to suspend or expel the Israeli association.

These include holding matches in occupied Palestinian territory, serious and systematic racial discrimination, political interference, Israel’s killing of Palestinian players, and the systematic destruction of Palestinian Football Association facilities – most of which predate October 7.

“There is a vast body of evidence to suggest that the only thing that could possibly stop FIFA from suspending or expelling the Israel Football Association is a political decision from its senior leadership not to enforce its statutes,” said FairSquare co-director Nick McGeehan.

Israel killed 38,848 Palestinians since October 7

Oslo accord's last breath: Knesset resolution pronounced its demise, says Mustafa Barghouti

Mustafa Barghouti, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, has commented on the Israeli Knesset’s passing of a resolution opposing the two-state solution.

“This resolution represents a rejection of peace with Palestinians and an official declaration of the death of Oslo agreement,” the Palestinian politician posted on X.

The Oslo agreement, which was signed between the Palestinian and Israeli leaders in 1993, called for a viable and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with an Israeli state.

But Israel has continued to adopt policies such as illegal settlement building on Palestinian lands in the occupied West Bank and a blockade of Gaza that have become hurdles in the realisation of the Palestinian state. Settlements are considered illegal under international law.

Think tank condemns Israeli army's shocking act

The Israeli army murdered a 24-year-old Palestinian man with Down’s syndrome and autism. The Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention strongly condemns this cruel act calling it a “genocidal institution”.

BBC report citing testimonies from family members, on July 3 Israeli soldiers allowed a combat dog to maul Muhammed Bhar in front of his family causing the young man to bleed from his arm and chest.

The think tank based in the United States, said it was “horrified, heartbroken and nauseated by the cruel [Israeli] murder of Muhammed Bhar”.

Nabila Bhar, the mother of the victim, told media that her family was forcefully evacuated from their home at gunpoint, leaving her son behind in the presence of soldiers. When they returned after a week, they found Bhar lifeless on the floor, his arm bound with a tourniquet and blood surrounding him.

“The cruel and heartbreaking July 3 murder of Muhammed Bhar, 24, by IDF soldiers in Gaza is a genocidal life force atrocity,” the US-based think tank said in a statement.

“The pattern of atrocity establishes the IDF as a genocidal institution,” it added.

Talks for a ceasefire remained in limbo as Israel executed a powerful strike targeting the commander of Hamas' military forces. However, fate of the commander is uncertain so far.

A costly embarrassment: US pulls the plug on Gaza floating pier

The United States will be halting the operation of a floating pier located off the coast of Gaza. This operation is being stopped just two months after the construction, which came with a heavy expense of $230 million.

The facility was raised for the delivery of aid supplies to the Palestinians.

This development is a "national embarrassment," a critic of President Joe Biden hailing from Republican claimed.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has recently issued a stern warning to Hezbollah, emphasizing that the Israeli military has the capability to launch an offensive in Lebanon at a moment's notice.

Israeli attacks on Gaza in the past 24 hours have resulted in the deaths of at least 81 Palestinians, health officials say.

Despite ongoing ceasefire talks, the relentless bombardment by Israeli forces persists.
