Hamas terms Israeli media report on Deif 'nonsense'

Abu Zuhri, a senior Hamas official, has told Reuters that an Israeli Army Radio report that the attack on al-Mawasi had targeted Hamas military chief Mohammed Deif is “nonsense”.

“All the martyrs are civilians and what happened was a grave escalation of the war of genocide, backed by the American support and world silence,” he said.

Zuhri also said that the attack showed Israel was not interested in reaching a ceasefire agreement.

Israeli air strikes on the al-Mawasi refugee camp, west of Khan Younis, killed over 50 people and left dozens injured, Al Jazeera reported.

Rescue missions: Gaza’s civil defence appeals for donations of petrol and equipment

Mohammed al-Moghayyar, a member of Gaza’s civil defence crew, talking to media has that in Deir el-Balah the rescue teams are facing the shortage of basic equipment to approach the wounded and the dead trapped under the rubble following Israeli air attacks.

He called for more support from the international community to deal with “the difficult situation”, adding that the civil defence was also suffering from a shortage of petrol for their vehicles.

“Yesterday, alone we recovered at least 70 bodies from Gaza City’s Tal al-Hawa neighbourhood and there are so many more bodies under the rubble,” he said.

Hepatitis ravages 70,000 people: Gaza government

Gaza’s Government Media Office says that 71,338 people have been infected with viral hepatitis due to displacement in various parts of the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the war on October 7 last year.

It reported that more than 1.7 million Palestinians have been infected with infectious diseases as a result of the harsh displacement conditions.

It said that 350,000 people with chronic diseases in Gaza face great risks due to the Israeli army’s prevention of the entry of necessary medications.

Gaza genocide: UN Rapporteur condemns Israeli impunity

Francesca Albanese, the UN’s special rapporteur on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, has reiterated that the international community failed to stop Israeli crimes. Due to their failure, Israel had committed genocide.

Genocide in Gaza is the result of “Israel’s decades-long impunity”, Albanese wrote in a post on social media, above footage of a speech in which she says it is Israel’s plan to “rid Palestine of Palestinians”.

“In this darkest hour, the international community cannot continue to ignore that it’s Israel’s project to rid Palestine of Palestinians in defiance of international law, and the world’s failure to call Israel to account has led to genocide laid bare in Gaza,” she says.

The International Court of Justice will issue an advisory opinion on July 19 regarding the legal implications of Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory, media reported.

The deputy leader of Hezbollah has suggested that Israel refrains from initiating a full-scale war against the Lebanese group due to its awareness that it would "pay a heavy price.

Disagreements between Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and intelligence chief David Barnea are hindering diplomatic efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of captives, Israeli media reported.

Dozens of bodies reported as battles rock Gaza city

GAZA CITY (Palestinian Territories) (AFP) – Hamas-run Gaza's civil defence agency said it found around 60 bodies after Israeli troops withdrew from parts of Gaza City on Friday, as heavy fighting gripped the Palestinian territory.

The grisly discovery came as international mediators pushed on with efforts to halt the war now raging into its 10th month.
