Iran’s president-elect reaffirms policy towards Israel

President-elect Masoud Pezeshkian has reaffirmed Iran’s anti-Israel stance, saying resistance movements across the region will not allow Israels “criminal policies” towards the Palestinians to continue, Reuters reports.

“The Islamic Republic has always supported the resistance of the people of the region against the illegitimate Zionist regime,” Pezeshkian said in a message to Hassan Nasrallah, leader of the Iran-backed Lebanese Hezbollah group.

The comments signalled no change in the regional policies of the incoming government under the relatively moderate Pezeshkian who defeated his hardline rival in last week’s runoff election.

‘Almost half a million people in Gaza face catastrophic levels of hunger’: WFP

The World Food Program (WFP) has called for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying, “Due to unreliable access and limited stocks, families often don’t receive the full [food] rations and frequency they need”, Al Jazeera reports.

The WFP said on X that it helped one million people in June “but that’s not enough”.

Israel opposition offers PM lifeline if he signs ceasefire

The head of Israel’s biggest opposition party said on Monday he would lend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his support in parliament to keep him in office if members of the ruling coalition quit over a ceasefire deal, Reuters reports.

Yair Lapid, leader of the Yesh Atid party, said at a meeting of his parliamentary faction: “There’s a hostages deal on the table. It is not true that Netanyahu has to choose between the hostages deal and the continuation of his tenure as prime minister.”

Gaza health ministry says death toll since Oct 7 from Israeli offensive at 38,193

Gaza’s health ministry has said at least 38,193 people have been killed in the fighting between Israel and Hamas, now in its tenth month, AFP reports.

The toll includes at least 40 deaths over the past 24 hours, a ministry statement said.

It added that 87,903 people have been wounded in the Gaza Strip since October 7.

Two missiles hit al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City: Report

Richard Sewell, the dean of St George’s College in Jerusalem, says he received information that al-Ahli Arab Hospital was hit by two missiles overnight.

“Today the complete evacuation of the hospital has been ordered,” Sewell said on X. “Full information yet to be received. Deeply distressing,” he added.

Caught in the dragnet: Children among 30 Palestinians arrested by Israel's military: Prisoners’ group

Israeli forces have arrested at least 30 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank, including children and former prisoners, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society.

“It is noteworthy that the number of arrests after October 7 has reached more than 9,580, and this number includes those who were arrested from their homes, through military checkpoints, those who were forced to surrender themselves under pressure, and those who were held hostage,” it said in a statement.

The Israeli military says its forces killed more than 30 Palestinian fighters in Gaza’s southern city of Rafah.

Israel has not learned any lessons from October 7: Lieberman

Israeli MP Avigdor Lieberman, who earlier served as deputy prime minister and finance minister, has reportedly said the country’s system is stuck on October 6.

Israeli Army Radio quoted him as saying he trusted only the Defense Ministry team in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations and demanded the removal of David Barnea, head of the Mossad intelligence service, from the case.

“We have to use all the possibilities available to us because we have exhausted our deterrence to zero,” Lieberman said, referring to the release of Israeli captives from Gaza through the ceasefire talks.

Netanyahu ‘is doing everything to avoid a deal’

Some in Israel’s political establishment have accused Netanyahu of trying to sabotage Gaza ceasefire negotiations by publishing a list of non-negotiable conditions even before a cabinet meeting was scheduled to convene to discuss the matter.

One of his demands said Israeli troops must be allowed to return to Gaza “and fight until all war’s objectives are achieved”.

“What is it good for? We are at a critical moment in the negotiations, the lives of the abductees depend on it, why issue such provocative messages? How does it contribute to the process?” opposition leader Yair Lapid said on X.

“It is quite clear that the prime minister is doing everything in his power to avoid a deal,” Israel Ziv, former head of the Israeli army’s operations, told the Maariv newspaper. “Whoever wants a deal does not publish his terms in the media, adds new conditions and publishes them,” he added.

Critics have long accused Netanyahu of trying to extend the conflict for his political survival.

A six-year-old girl has died of dehydration, lack of medical supplies and starvation in Gaza.

Israeli jets hit southern Lebanon

Israeli jets attacked several areas in southern Lebanon overnight.

The military claims that the jets targeted buildings allegedly belonging to Hezbollah, including a weapons warehouse.

Since October, Israel has carried out 7,400 attacks from both sides of the border.

Due to Israel atrocities more than 90,000 people have to leave their homes in southern Lebanon.

This week, discussions aimed at achieving a truce will continue in Egypt and Qatar through mediated talks.

Palestinians in eastern parts of Gaza City are leaving their homes after the Israeli military issued "immediate" evacuation orders for the Tuffah, Darraj, and Old City neighborhoods.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that any ceasefire deal with Gaza must allow Israel to resume fighting until its initial war objectives are achieved.

This statement comes amidst reports that Hamas has dropped a key demand for Israel to commit upfront to a permanent ceasefire. Instead, negotiations would be allowed to take place throughout an initial six-week pause in fighting to work towards a permanent ceasefire

Israeli spy chief, negotiators to depart for Cairo talks today (Monday): Report

A team of Israeli negotiators led by Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar is expected to depart for Cairo later today as mediated talks to end the war in Gaza continue, an Israeli news site reported, citing an unnamed senior Israeli official.

The report by Walla said that CIA chief Bill Burns is also expected in Cairo on Tuesday and in Doha on Wednesday.

Mediated talks between Israel and Hamas were revived last week with Israeli negotiators participating in talks in Doha on Friday. The revival comes as Netanyahu faces mounting domestic pressure over the war in Gaza, including from families of captives held by Hamas as well as from senior army officials, according to Israeli media reports.
