Summary Pakistani actor Nouman Masood urges PM Shehbaz and CM Maryam to ease early restaurant closure rules, warning the policy threatens livelihoods and family entertainment
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Pakistani actor Nouman Masood has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to review the government’s policy of limiting the operating hours for restaurants and cafes, citing financial challenges.
In a video message shared on Instagram, Masood said that while he usually interacts with fans positively, this time his tone reflected worry, as the government’s austerity policy had affected not only his personal business but also the livelihoods of his friends, employees, and countless others in the restaurant industry.
He highlighted that in recent months, ongoing regional tensions and government restrictions have placed immense pressure on the restaurant sector. Although business owners have tried to cooperate, the new rules mandating early closure are exacerbating financial challenges.
“During the summer, people often go out in the evening to unwind with family after work,” Masood said, emphasizing that restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops play a critical role in family entertainment in Pakistan. “Closing early directly affects business and reduces opportunities for families to enjoy outings.”
Masood also pointed out that restaurants of all sizes are under severe financial strain due to inflation, rising fuel prices, and restricted business hours. Many owners are struggling to pay staff salaries, and previously manageable extra expenses have now become significant challenges.
He urged the government to reconsider the policy in light of these ground realities to provide relief to the restaurant industry, which is not only a major employment source but also a key venue for public recreation. Masood stressed that balancing the needs of both businesses and employees is essential during the current economic challenges.
