(Web Desk)- The birth anniversary of renowned ghazal poet Nasir Kazmi is being observed today (Monday).
Nasir Kazmi was born on 8 December 1925 in Ambala, in the Indian state of Punjab. He received his early education in his hometown before moving to Lahore to study at Government College.
He is known for his simple yet deeply emotive poetic expression. Nasir Kazmi continues to hold a distinguished place in the world of Urdu literature.
After the partition of the subcontinent, he migrated to Lahore along with his family. However, the turbulent circumstances of those years prevented him from completing his B.A. degree.

In the early phase of his literary life, Kazmi wrote romantic poems influenced by the style of Akhtar Sheerani. Eventually, he turned towards the ghazal and soon emerged as one of its most influential contemporary voices.
Over the years, he produced several remarkable collections, including, ‘Deewan’, ‘Pehli Barish’, ‘Nishat-e-Khwab’, ‘Aitbar-e-Naghma’, ‘Berg-e-Ne’, and ‘Khushk Chashmay Ke Kinare’, all of which remain celebrated for their musicality, delicacy, and emotional depth.
Nasir Kazmi also served as editor for various literary magazines and later became associated with Radio Pakistan Lahore, a connection that continued until the end of his life.
He passed away on 2 March 1972 due to stomach cancer. Yet, despite the passage of decades, his ghazals continue to enchant listeners and readers alike, resonating with the same charm and subtle melancholy that defined his poetic voice.
